After her return from a 2013 conference, Meagan Rockett, Association Ambassador at Greenfield Services, was frustrated. The conference had the “same-old” topics, talking heads, and little opportunity to engage both speakers and fellow participants.
She complained that it was a waste of her time and the company’s money. Her boss, Doreen Ashton Wagner initiated the challenge, by asking “So what are you going to do about this?” (At Greenfield, you are entitled to rant, but you are immediately challenged to come up with a solution).
Meagan returned a few days later saying “I think we should do our own event – our way…”

What you need to know about the Engaging Associations Forum!
From the feedback received from our focus groups and post-event survey in 2015, association execs told us peer-to-peer (P2P) learning is what they crave. They want an opportunity to exchange information with each other – not just from consultants and “experts” – about failures, successes, how-to-do’s and not-to-do’s. This was an interesting finding for us[…]
Over the past two years The Engaging Associations Forum would kick off with the Breakfast on Day 1. Based on the feedback we received from our speakers and presenters in 2015, we have added another opportunity for association executives to gather and get to know each other better. Thanks to VIA Rail, one of the Forum’s[…]
This post was submitted by Isabelle Perrault, Vice President and Practice Lead, Digital Transformation at Stratford Managers. Isabelle will be speaking on the topic of digital maturity as it relates to associations at The Engaging Associations Forum. Associations, not-for-profits and charities are not immune to the disruption caused by digital technology and the ever increasing expectations[…]
On July 20-22, 2016, Greenfield Services will host the third annual Engaging Associations Forum, an event geared towards association executives who want to create change in the industry. The event will provide the opportunity for a true exchange of ideas for a new generation of associations to succeed, grow and prosper! Joining us as a Thought-Leader[…]
This post was submitted by Mahoganey Jones, Certified Meeting Professional and Digital Event Strategist. Ms. Jones will be engaging with Forum participants during our Big Picture Talks series and subsequent Deeper Dives. In this era of technology and decreased professional development budgets, we see an increased request for hybrid meeting production. Although there are many[…]
I will forever remember the moment he accosted me at the lunch buffet, not only to complain there wasn’t enough “real food” (i.e. not the yummy healthy meal we were serving). Then he declared, in a rather dismissive tone, that “the only reason associations want engagement is to sell more stuff.” Speechless is rarely a[…]
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 4, 2016 Engaging Associations Forum Scholarship Winners Announced Greenfield Services Inc & Marriott International to welcome six association executives to annual thought-leadership event Alexandria, Ontario, Canada: Marriott International partnered with The Engaging Associations Forum (and its hosts, Greenfield Services Inc.) to provide six association executives with the opportunity to participate[…]
In a previous post we mused about the definition of engagement in the association/not-for-profit world, and the day-to-day impact on association leaders’ work. This, in the face of conflicting demands that NFP executives experience everyday: doing more, with less. Keeping the Board happy, the members joining and renewing, all within (a shrinking) budget. Not to mention the[…]
The idea of bring together people who have a common interest has been around forever… And isn’t that one of the fundamental functions of associations? At the Engaging Associations Forum in 2015 a number of our “solo-preneurs” told us they really wanted extra time to meet and talk about their common interests. Solo-preneurs are the affectionate term[…]
